Plans, and a smaller privacy footprint

Two changes worth telling you about directly, because one of them is about what we collect and the other is about money. Neither changes a single reading.

We removed Google Analytics

WetBulbTracker no longer uses Google Analytics. It set a tracking identifier in your browser on the first paint of every page, before you had agreed to anything, which is exactly what cookie banners exist to ask about.

We could have added a banner. We removed the dependency instead. Aggregate usage now comes from Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless: no identifier, no cross-site tracking, nothing to consent to.

The only cookie this site sets now is your sign-in session, and only if you choose to sign in. That is why you have never seen a cookie banner here and still will not: there is nothing to ask about.

Your "safe for me" profile now asks first

The personalization profile — your age band, exertion level, how used to the heat you are, and any health sensitivities you tick — is the most personal thing this product holds. It always stayed on your device or your own account, and it was never sold or sent to advertisers.

Now it also asks before collecting anything. The first time you open the personalization controls you will see what the data is for, what it is not (guidance, never medical advice), and a choice. Nothing is stored until you make it, and the date you agreed is recorded.

You can withdraw from the same place at any time. Withdrawing deletes the profile from your device and from your account, not just the permission.

Two related details, since they are the sort of thing that is easy to claim and hard to verify:

• Nothing about your profile has ever gone to analytics. Not the values, not even which fields you filled in. There is now an automated check in our source code that fails the build if anyone adds it.
• Because analytics is cookieless and Google is gone, there is no longer a third party for that data to reach even by accident.

Plans are visible, and the free tier is written down

There is now a pricing page. Plus and Pro are not on sale yet, and the page will tell you so, but the plans and prices are public rather than something you discover at checkout.

The part we care most about is the list of things that will never be behind a payment: live readings anywhere, guidance and safety warnings, state athletic policy tables, pavement and paw safety, your personal risk read, city guides, and viewing any report somebody shares with you. Viewing a shared report will never ask you to sign in.

That list is not a marketing promise. It is a constant in our source code with a test that fails the build if anything is removed from it. Someone in danger from heat should never meet a paywall, and neither should the person they sent the reading to.
