State heat-policy pages for school sports
Most state high school athletic associations publish a heat policy for school sports. Each state now has a page on what its association's document says, and so does the District of Columbia. One page puts all of them side by side: school sports heat policies by state.
What each state page shows
- The association and its document, with a link to the document itself where we could confirm one.
- The label: whether the document is written as a requirement or as guidance, or sets no statewide WBGT rule. Where a document has no single statewide table, the label says so.
- The reading it uses: WBGT, the heat index, either one, or no measured limit, or "See the document" where we have not read enough to say.
- Its table, where the association publishes one for the whole state.
- When we last checked the document.
Each page also links to the map, and to live heat readings for the state's cities where we have a city page.
What the labels are, and what they are not
Our labels summarize what each association's own document says. They are not legal advice, and they are not the document. The policy your school or league has adopted is what binds you, so confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association.
Where we could not confirm which document an association follows, the page says so. South Dakota's does today.
Associations revise these documents, often before the fall season. If a page is wrong or out of date, use its "Suggest a correction" link to send us the current document, and we will re-check it.
