Louisiana school sports heat policy
LHSAA’s WBGT chart, which we cite with a Louisiana administrative rule, prints three regional columns and does not say which one Louisiana schools follow. How to read these labels

What LHSAA’s document says
The citation here pairs La. Admin. Code tit. 28 §CLVII-507 with LHSAA’s WBGT chart. The chart prints all three regional categories side by side and does not say which one Louisiana schools follow. We won’t pick a column for you: they differ by about 6 °F at the first trigger. Ask LHSAA or your district which category applies, then use that ladder.
We don’t have a single sourced threshold table for Louisiana, and we won’t put another state’s numbers in its place: regional tables differ by several degrees. Follow the policy your school, district or league has adopted. For general heat guidance at your field, open the map.
La. Admin. Code tit. 28 §CLVII-507 / LHSAA WBGT ChartThis is a plain-language summary to help you plan. It is not legal advice, and it is not the association’s document. Associations revise these policies often. Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association.
What else to know
- Whichever column applies, LHSAA’s chart gives the same activity guidelines; only the readings where each step starts differ. As readings rise, it caps practice at two hours, then at one hour with 20 minutes of rest breaks in the hour, then calls for no outdoor workouts.
- Even at the lowest readings, LHSAA’s chart asks for at least three rest breaks each hour. For football, it limits players to helmet, shoulder pads and shorts at the two-hour level, and allows no protective equipment and no conditioning at the one-hour level.
How to read this
LHSAA’s document does not give one WBGT table for the whole state, so none is shown here. The summary above says why. Open the document to find the table or chart that applies to your school.
Before you rely on this
- This page summarizes LHSAA’s document. It does not replace it. If they differ, go by the document and by the policy your school or league has adopted.
- Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association. Many schools adopt their own version.
- Any WBGT number WetBulbTracker shows is a modeled estimate for planning, not an official reading. Where a policy calls for an on-site reading, that reading governs.
- This page does not replace an athletic trainer’s judgment.
