What UHSAA’s document says
UHSAA publishes three regional WBGT ladders side by side and tells each school “Be sure to know what category your venue is in,” rather than assigning one statewide. Because that assignment is the school’s, we don’t show a Utah table: picking one would be our guess, not UHSAA’s. Its chart is headed “Activity Guidelines”. For schools that offer football, its handbook says “Schools offering football have received Wet Bulb Globes (WBGT) from the NFHS/UHSAA and must be used to measure heat stress during hot weather in all outdoor activities.” Get your venue’s category, and its ladder, from UHSAA.
We don’t have a single sourced threshold table for Utah, and we won’t put another state’s numbers in its place: regional tables differ by several degrees. Follow the policy your school, district or league has adopted. For general heat guidance at your field, open the map.
UHSAA Sports Medicine Handbook (updated July 2026), Heat Acclimatization: Wet Bulb InfoThis is a plain-language summary to help you plan. It is not legal advice, and it is not the association’s document. Associations revise these policies often. Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association.
What else to know
- UHSAA’s handbook says “The UHSAA encourages all schools to have a WBGT for student safety.”
- Its reminders say to set the device up 15 to 30 minutes before activity in a sunny spot on the playing surface and to “Check WBGT reading no more than 30 minutes apart.” They also say to adjust activity when a reading stays in a higher risk category for more than 10 minutes.
- UHSAA’s reminders give a reading for stopping all outdoor activity in Category 1 and Category 2 only. For a Category 3 venue, the stopping point is in the chart’s Category 3 column.
- During the preseason heat-acclimatization period, UHSAA says “it is strongly recommended that an athletic trainer be on site before, during, and after all practices.”
How to read this
UHSAA’s document does not give one WBGT table for the whole state, so none is shown here. The summary above says why. Open the document to find the table or chart that applies to your school.
Before you rely on this
- This page summarizes UHSAA’s document. It does not replace it. If they differ, go by the document and by the policy your school or league has adopted.
- Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association. Many schools adopt their own version.
- Any WBGT number WetBulbTracker shows is a modeled estimate for planning, not an official reading. Where a policy calls for an on-site reading, that reading governs.
- This page does not replace an athletic trainer’s judgment.
