What NIAA’s document says
NIAA publishes all three regional WBGT ladders side by side and hands the choice to the school: “Schools should follow the activity guidelines for the region in which they are located—see map below.” The map is the Grundstein regional map, and its classes run right across Nevada (the north is not Las Vegas), so no Nevada table is shown here. Picking a column would be our guess rather than NIAA’s, and it would be wrong for a large part of the state either way. NIAA writes this as guidance: WBGT monitoring is “the recommended and preferred method”, all schools “should” have a device, and if the WBGT is unavailable the heat index “may be used as a temporary back-up method”. Find your school on NIAA’s map, then use that column’s ladder.
We don’t have a single sourced threshold table for Nevada, and we won’t put another state’s numbers in its place: regional tables differ by several degrees. Follow the policy your school, district or league has adopted. For general heat guidance at your field, open the map.
NIAA 2025-26 Heat Acclimatization & Heat Illness Guidelines: Exertional Heat Illness GuidelineThis is a plain-language summary to help you plan. It is not legal advice, and it is not the association’s document. Associations revise these policies often. Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association.
What else to know
- NIAA writes its guidelines as recommendations, but its hydration section uses stronger words, “Depending on a wet bulb globe temperature reading breaks are mandated as follows”, and then sets water breaks for each level.
How to read this
NIAA’s document does not give one WBGT table for the whole state, so none is shown here. The summary above says why. Open the document to find the table or chart that applies to your school.
Before you rely on this
- This page summarizes NIAA’s document. It does not replace it. If they differ, go by the document and by the policy your school or league has adopted.
- Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association. Many schools adopt their own version.
- Any WBGT number WetBulbTracker shows is a modeled estimate for planning, not an official reading. Where a policy calls for an on-site reading, that reading governs.
- This page does not replace an athletic trainer’s judgment.
