Minnesota school sports heat policy
MSHSL’s heat policy, updated in April 2026, is a recommendation for member schools; we have not read its chart, so no Minnesota table is shown. How to read these labels

What MSHSL’s document says
MSHSL’s Board approved an updated heat policy on 7 April 2026, and its own summary names the Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer and hourly monitoring alongside an approved app for heat index. The threshold chart is in a PDF we have not read, so we show no Minnesota table rather than guess at one. MSHSL publishes this as recommendation, not requirement: “it is a recommendation for member schools to implement within their programs”. Open “Guidelines for Heat Conditions” from MSHSL’s weather page for the numbers.
We don’t have a single sourced threshold table for Minnesota, and we won’t put another state’s numbers in its place: regional tables differ by several degrees. Follow the policy your school, district or league has adopted. For general heat guidance at your field, open the map.
MSHSL Weather Condition Guidelines for Competition or PracticeThis is a plain-language summary to help you plan. It is not legal advice, and it is not the association’s document. Associations revise these policies often. Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association.
What else to know
- The guidelines page linked here does not describe the change. MSHSL’s own account of it is its Board of Directors meeting synopsis for April 7, 2026, under agenda item 9C, “SMAC Recommended Heat Policy”.
How to read this
MSHSL’s document does not give one WBGT table for the whole state, so none is shown here. The summary above says why. Open the document to find the table or chart that applies to your school.
Before you rely on this
- This page summarizes MSHSL’s document. It does not replace it. If they differ, go by the document and by the policy your school or league has adopted.
- Confirm what currently applies with your school, district or association. Many schools adopt their own version.
- Any WBGT number WetBulbTracker shows is a modeled estimate for planning, not an official reading. Where a policy calls for an on-site reading, that reading governs.
- This page does not replace an athletic trainer’s judgment.
